Educating New Mexico for a Better Tomorrow
ADULT BASIC EDUCATION/GENERAL EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT
The SER ABE/GED Program, established in 2001, offers a community based learning environment
featuring small class sizes and individual attention for adults 16 years of age and over.
The Core Curriculum is focused on the end goal of a GED Diploma for each student utilizing
classroom and computer-based instruction. Interim Programming (IP) short-term classes allow
students immediate placement, avoiding a waiting list and greatly improving retention. Case management
services are provided, as well as one-on-one tutoring as needed outside of the non-traditional small classroom.
Additional mentoring is provided by tutors through the AmeriCorps Services Program and other community
partnerships.
The SER de New Mexico ABE/GED program provides a learning
community that encourages students to acquire new skills
while augmenting previous knowledge in an inclusive and
low-stress environment. The program is staffed by a small
group of dedicated men and women focused on student achievement.
Classroom sizes are kept small to facilitate cohesive group
interaction and one-on-one student/teacher contact. Sites are
embedded within the neighborhoods we serve, allowing a
holistic approach that involves the student, the family, and
the community at large in successfully achieving educational
goals. To accommodate the sometimes transient nature of our
target population, students can be transferred to any of
our five locations within the Albuquerque/Metro area.
Our program is highly individualized and focuses on the
goals of the learner.
